About Us

Welcome to the Website of Boy Scout Troop 50!

We are one of Central Pennsylvania's largest and most active Boy Scout Troops with over fifty Boy Scouts. We are a chartered organization of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

We are a troop run for boys, by boys. Our troop operates using the traditional "Patrol Method." The Boy Scouts are one of the few organizations for youth where the adults are not "in charge." The boys manage most aspects of our troop operations under the guidance of our adult leaders.

If you are new to the Scouting program, our Troop has the resources to get the most out of your scouting experience.  We can set you on the trail to develop a one of a kind skill set, from thriving outdoors to better understanding what you mean to your community - this is the place.

If you are already familiar with the program or just looking to "up the ante" on your scouting experience, we have you covered.  We are super active and looking for scouts with the same passion that we have.  We have quarterly Courts of Honor, an active advancement program, great support from Youth leaders as well as adult volunteers and plenty of opportunity for positions of responsibility that smaller troops cannot always provide.  Stop by and check out the Troop.

Our Troop camps on a Monthly basis, and spends two weeks over the summer at the Hidden Valley Scout Reservation in Loysville, Pennsylvania.  We also have an extensive high adventure program for older scouts, our adventures have led us to over 20 States.  Some of our past trips include 125-mile treks at the Philmont Scout Ranch in the mountains of Cimarron, New Mexico as well as 25-mile backpacking treks along the C&O canal in Maryland and the Appalachian Trail near Blue Ridge Summit in Pennsylvania.  Our Troop will continue the adventure with a hike & bike trip along the C&O Canal in 2019.

If Eagle Scout is your goal, we have the resources to help get you there.  Troop 50 has had over 28 Eagle Scouts since it's inception in 1934.

We represent Scouts from the communities of spry, York Township, Dallastown, Red Lion, Yoe, Jacobus, and Spring Garden. All boys between 11 and 18 years of age are welcome to join our troop.

Our troop meets most Monday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in Scout Hall, located at 50 School Street. Spry, PA 17403.

Our Dues for the 2019 year are currently $60
